Over the past couple of weeks, I have been able to share my heart, share my why; why Organize You Now, why seniors?
I was raised by my Grandparents, Garfield and Mayme Mott
I was born in Bronx, New York, where I was raised as an infant by my maternal grandparents. My grandmother was a Registered Nurse; she was a nurturer, kind, caring and calm. With the very nature of her job – she cared for people, she served her community. My Grandfather was a World War II Veteran, serving his Country. They each had full lives working, and still chose to take care of me and my brother full-time. They chose to ensure that our lives were fruitful, yet safe, and we didn’t miss out on anything. They took care of us, with nothing in return.
After long and beautiful careers, my grandparents, now seniors, decided to retire and relocate to Birmingham Alabama; they took me and my brother with them. Again, they chose to take care of us and sacrifice living their retirement years on a beach or somewhere with peace and quiet! Those retirement years came with unexpected illnesses; I watched my Grandmother deal with diabetes, kidney failure and dialysis. I watched my Grandfather diligently take care of her before and after his stroke, and then Alzheimer’s set-in – and he would call me by his daughter’s name, Harriett, which was my Mom. I could only watch as I was a barely a teenager, not knowing what to do, or how to help. My Grandmother passed away in 1996 and my Grandfather in 2006….and there it was, living life without my grandparents. By 2006, I had lost my Mom, Dad and my beloved Grandparents.
Mere words can never express the love and respect I hold for them, and the memories I cherish of them. Their strength, resilience and power in the sacrifices they made to take care of us is priceless. And while I can never repay their sacrifice - I choose to honor them:
Because of my Grandparents giving nature, I am a Philanthropist at heart; giving wherever needed. Through Organize You Now, I am able to honor that love, time and commitment by offering many of our organizing services for free to seniors in need. We also donate 10% of all sales to support senior community initiatives throughout Southern Maryland. I also enjoy volunteering my time in support of senior adults, just spending time.…just because.
I’m not here without my seniors (and Jesus 😊); Garfield and Mayme – my “why”.
